bivio time out
Thanks for the invitation, Linda. What time is your meeting tomorrow?

We also hold 'public' meetings with our Model Club.
For the public meetings I don't necessarily have Bivio open all the time. I use a PPT, into which I have pasted screen shots. If you would like to attend an online Model Club meeting, we have one tomorrow evening. https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/rt/8299840911884932866

However in my other investment club (not a Model Club), we project onto a screen or large TV. We have several programs open for the duration of the meeting (About an hour and a half.) Sometimes one or two members will bring their laptops too, but it isn't necessary for an effective meeting.

Before the meeting begins -- while everyone else is enjoying appetizers and wine -- I'm opening up: Betterinvestsing.org, Bivio.com, ManifestInvesting.com, I used to also open Toolkit, but we're all using the Online Tools now, so I don't bother with that. During the meeting we jump around from SSGs, to files on bivio, and accessing any other websites that have proven useful (Trefis.com, Morningstar, Valueline, Seeking Alpha, Edgar, finance.yahoo.com, etc.)

Bivio does contain sensitive information - names, addresses, social security numbers - and I've experienced identity theft (not from Bivio I don't think), so anything that can enhance cyber security would be a plus. I agree with one of the comments in this thread that if there is an auto-time out function, then it would be good if it were adjustable.

But I'm curious if there are other ways Bivio could have enhanced security (I'm not an IT person), possibly around how the brokerages interact with it - is that interaction portal vulnerable in any way?

At our club meetings, we generally have Bivio open for most of the meeting and having to log in every five minutes would defeat the purpose of making our records visible to our partners as we switch between reports, etc. Also, when members are loading copies of their reports, minutes, or whatever ... I know for me there are times when it takes longer than 5-10 or even 30 minutes to load up or refer back to my project.

Only the club's Administrators/Treasurer have the ability to make any changes to any actual accounting record.

Many clubs only enter the SS#'s long enough to generate the tax forms, then remove them.

Hi Laura,

I logged in to the website you referenced in your email, and either
there is an earlier meeting recorded or your meeting is awfully early
for being on the West Coast. Please advise.

I thought the K-1s remained on the site for some period of time. The
K-1s contain the social security numbers of the members.

If you are concerned about your name address and phone
number being readily available online maybe you should worry
about the number of phone directories that are available and
reverse phone lookup sites. Oh by the way in Michigan and I
assume most other states Names, addresses, and birth dates
are published by the state on the registered voter rolls. I
would be more concerned about the credit reporting agencies
[like Equifax] and other information gatherers that have
suffered a breach or breaches, and lets not forget yahoo.

SSN and address do NOT have to be stored in Bivio.  One of my two clubs, with 22 partners, does not store SSN's online.  It's not that difficult to write them down before copying and mailing our annual return, and it's an additional step to ensure our identity is safe.

Oh, Peter, I'm so sorry.
We meet at 7--8:30 pm Pacific time. It is possible I sent the wrong link.

Next month we meet on Thursday, April 19th, and we'll make sure to advertise it on the club_cafe. (if allowed)
