Where Do Your Investment Clubs Meet?
We're a club of 9. Previously we met in a nice company conference room where one of the members worked. He has switched jobs and we lost that convenient option. Currently, we meet online 90% of the time. The county libraries restrict meetings to non-profit and meetings must be "open to the public". The community colleges or community centers offer rentals ranging $30 - 50/hour. We haven't found many decent restaurants with a conducive environment. We will occasionally meet in a member's home but few members are centrally located.

We are a small club that meets in one member's home. We use
her tv as a modem to show bivio reports, ssg's, and other
cool stuff for study. When we were larger, we met in a
church meeting room of one of our members and gave them a
yearly donation.

Our club meets in a local coffee shop.  They provide free wifi and they will reserve a large table for us. A couple of times in the summer we will meet at a restaurant with a nice outside venue. In November we meet at one of the members house for our Christmas meeting and we bring food and a small gift exchange. We do not have a meeting in December due to the month being  busy.

This is all great feedback. Thank you to everyone who has shared so far.

I am in two clubs. One met for dinner at members houses for a long time and now meets more often online or at a conference room where some of the members work. We still meet "on location" at members houses for a summer get together and a December party.

The other club has tried several locations. We also had issues with our local library not wanting to host a "for profit" group or wanting to charge us to use their facilities. Through other connections in the community, we've been able to utilize a small conference room at our local bus depot and now use a really nice conference room in our local United Way office.

Both groups are in the 7-8 person size range. Some of you have referred to that size group as "small". I personally think that is an optimum club size. It makes managing operations less cumbersome and it certainly means there are probably more choices available for finding a meeting place. But we have groups of all different sizes using bivio. It just depends on what your group gets comfortable with.

To get around the library "for-profit" issue, all you have to do is reserve the room under someone's name as a study group. In all my years of meeting at the library I've never had a librarian come in to check on us. Is this dishonest? Maybe. But my tax dollars, as well as those of my members, go to pay for that library. If I want to meet there with my friends to discuss and possibly buy stocks, I will.

We're fortunate to have a local library provide us a nice conference room no charge with wi-fi and a projector.  This allows us to present reports and educational materials on-line saving on paper.  We begin the monthly meeting at 6:00 PM due to work schedules and have to be out of the room by 8:00 PM.  This is good because it limits over-discussing topics and keeps us on agenda and process.  We have 20 members with 10 on average showing up for meetings.

Hi,

I was in a McDonalds while on a road trip recently and it had a nice glass walled meeting room area off the main lobby.  I hadn't seen that before,  it might have been a former playground space.  It looked to me like a great place to hold an investment club meeting.

That got me to thinking that new clubs might be looking for ideas for meeting places for their clubs.  Perhaps we can compile a list of ideas for them.

If you're interested in sharing, where do your investment clubs hold your meetings?
