Hi, I was in a McDonalds while on a road trip recently and it had a nice glass walled meeting room area off the main lobby. I hadn't seen that before, it might have been a former playground space. It looked to me like a great place to hold an investment club meeting. That got me to thinking that new clubs might be looking for ideas for meeting places for their clubs. Perhaps we can compile a list of ideas for them. Laurie Frederiksen

Other places to consider not mentioned below: Real estate offices have conference rooms in most cases. If you have a real estate agent friend they may provide it even if they are not in the club. Law firms Community Colleges may provide for you a room Banks may be a problem if your club meets after hours Small businesses may have rooms too. Think of friends who own a business and they may provide you space. If you're interested in sharing, where do your investment clubs hold your meetings? Laurie Frederiksen We have three clubs associated with a home owners association. Our association is a Del Webb homeowners association and we have been established as clubs for 18 years. We meet in breakout rooms in our lodge and have available all the audio visual technology we need to give presentations using the web with virtual presentations regarding the market and individual equities , all supported by by Wi-Fi. We have a Wall Street Room available where we have have access to Value Line for research and study. We consider ourselves very fortunate as the meeting rooms are locked in to specific days and times each month and the rooms are set up by the maintenance staff. We are extremely fortunate. We do not allow food or refreshments during the business meetings but have a restaurant available for those who want to have dinner before or after the meeting. Jack
Our club meetings are held in the library. We like having wireless internet access while meeting. A former club met in the library, but library rules wouldn't let any money exchange hands, so we had to submit checks in the parking lot before or after meetings. If would be wonderful if Value Lines were available. Our local library discontinued making VL's available online due to cost and underuse.

Great topic. Our club is currently struggling with this matter. We met for years in a conference room of the employer of one of our partners. It was ideal. We would hook the laptop to the big screen wall mount television and easily review monthly Treasurer Reports, account statements and online educational topics from a large conference table. I would personally prepare a powerpoint educational presentation every-other month as well. The surround sound was also nice bonus. However, our partner recently left for a more lucrative opportunity and we were without a meeting place. We have tried bar-restaurants with Wi-Fi, but it is not easy for all partners to crowd around a laptop and printing paper copies for everyone is a bit wasteful and cumbersome. We are currently considering alternating between partner residences in order to get back to using a big screen for presentations. I am interested in hearing about where other clubs meet. Our club, which is now down to 8 members, meets in our homes most of the
time. We set up a rotation in January for stock selection and meeting location.
When we had 16-2- members, we sometimes used an office at a local realtor since
6 of our members worked there (the nucleus of our group when starting). We have
also had a breakfast meeting at an old time diner which let us use the back part
of a room so it was not too noisy, a small room at an Asian Fusion restaurant
when one member's house was hit with plumbing problems the day before we were to
meet there, and once we had part of our meeting at a Chico's clothing store. We
were interested in buying the stock and two of our members who were steady
Chico's customers arranged for us to meet there after the store closed. They
modeled clothing and we did buy to stock, rode it up nicely and sold before it
started to fall.
Our hostesses provide food and we now, with the smaller group able to sit
around a dining room table, just snack during the meeting. We used to wait for
snacks and wine but the meetings ran too long and it is a lot more fun to pick
stocks with a good white wine in hand!
I have seen a separate room at a nearby Burger King, but no one wants to go
there for food! Several restaurants that used to provide a quieter room for
10-16 people have succumbed to the downturn in the economy, so that option is
limited in our community. My husband and I are in the process of downsizing and
I thought the over 55 community we will move into would let us meet at the
community building, but just discovered that there is a hefty fee to rent a room
when the majority of attendees are not owners. Rats! Was hoping to recruit a few
new members that way!
Great topic and I am reading your ideas.
