Pet Stock

Pet Stock Several people suggested a share of stock as a grab bag gift for an investment club. That got me thinking. (and laughing to myself) Why shouldn't a club have a Pet Stock? Pick a company and buy a single share of their stock and commit to letting it reside in your club portfolio for a year. Someone could win the right each year to be the official keeper. They could be any kind of parent they wanted. They could be a "Hands off" parent who lets the kid be what he is meant to be. Or they could be a "Helicopter" Parent who writes daily letters to the company board and CEO recommending changes so their pet will prosper. If they're an overachiever parent, they could buy lottery tickets and compare their pets results to them each month. All you'd really have to do is watch what it does over the course of the next year. Enjoy its successes and be patient when it stumbles. You could give it your own name if you wanted, or just a nickname. You could even make it your club mascot. It would be kind of like a Pet Rock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet_Rock), but it would actually do something and give you something to talk about. It would not need to be fed, walked, bathed, groomed or watched when you went on vacation. You'd never have to clean up after it or worry that it had scratched the furniture. It wouldn't get lost if you went outside and you wouldn't have to keep it on a leash. It could, of course, die, become sick, be disobedient or even have children of it's own. But, as with all pets, handling those things helps you grow as a person. I have an investment club holiday party tonight. Who knows? We might have a pet by tomorrow. BRLI and F have already been offered as suggestions. Anybody got any others? I have not researched the company but looking at it's chart it has been in a steady climb from a low of $15 in 11/08 to $50 now. I think that I am going to check out this company this weekend. Funny how you can get ideas.

I know your club does very well. If you decide anything, I, and I'm sure others, would be interested to hear what you think. Thanks for the heads up. -- Laurie Frederiksen Invest with your friends! www.bivio.com Become our Facebook friend! www.facebook.com/bivio Follow us on twitter! www.twitter.com/bivio |
