Spouse taking departing husband's place in the club. We lost a member through death and his spouse would like to take his place in the club. How do we handle this in Bivio? The safest thing to do is to withdraw the deceased member, issue payment to the Estate of [decedent], and then let the surviving spouse join separately. Doing anything else could create problems for the club should it turn out that the spouse wasn't the decedent's beneficiary (eg., a trust was established upon death to receive the decedent's assets).
Second, should you still want to transfer the units to the surviving spouse, there isn't a simple procedure for effecting the transfer and establishing the correct cost basis for the transferred units. You need to contact support@bivio.com for assistance.
