signing the 1065

signing the 1065 I am the financial partner. I have been signing the "Preparer's signature" on the front page of the 1065 but have not put the information requested on the line below it because it indicates it is for a "Paid" preparer. i am not paid. also, is there any reason why i should check "no" to the question "is it ok for the irs to contact me?" I can't see any reason and it's better than being lonely! Deannie Deannie,
There is no reason for you to sign as preparer. Simply sign the return in
the space allocated as Partner.
And no, there is no reason to check 'no' to the question about the IRS
contacting you.

Correct. You should not be completing this section.
There is no need to check either box. That's permission to discuss the return with a preparer who is not a partner in the club. The IRS doesn't need permission to discuss the return with the taxpayer. (In the case of a partnership, that could be any member.)

For the benefit of others like myself who ask first, then dig a bit, the answer to most tax prep questions can be found on the Tax Prep link provided in the club cafe main page, right side , along with link to the audit form. It walks you through the 1065. ras1 wrote: > In a message dated 02/21/10 17:08:21 Eastern Standard Time, mcrule@bivio.com writes: > > I am the financial partner.
