tax consequences of stock to withdrawing member
hi - has anyone done a stock transfer in a prior year and
knows the resulting tax consequences to the withdrawing
member, as well as, the remaining members?

i've tried to get answers from tech support but it's always
very vague and incomplete.

i would like to see (with names blacked out) the actual k1's
and withdrawal reports.

i'm responsible for explaining it to our club at meeting
next wednesday.

if anyone can help i really appreciate it. thanks soooo
much- i don't know if it's allowed but my direct email is
valriegriffith@yahoo.com thanks valrie
Valrie:

I cannot provide you copies withdrawal reports and K-1s from
my club, but you can create your own by performing a
withdrawal using the demo club in your bivio account.

As far as the tax consequences of transfering stock that has
an appreciated value in the club's portfolio, they are
pretty straight forward.

Tax consequences to remaining members is that they have no
tax consequences instead of having negative tax consequences
of pre-paying taxes on the gain if the stock were sold to
raise cash.

The tax consequences to the withdrawing member is that
instead of owing tax on the gain if the stock were sold by
the club, the w/d member will only have a taxable event when
he sells the transfered stock. The w/d member's basis in the
transfered stock is not the club's basis, but is determined
by his basis in his interest in the club itself.

I suggest you run a trial withdrawal in the demo club of
bivio so you can see the results yourself.

You will find further discussion of this concept by entering
"stock" and "withdraw" in the search field of bivio.
