Expenses, and how to enter them

Expenses, and how to enter them OK, next year I'll have everyone make their checks payable to BI, and I'll only have to worry about the Bivio and BI club membership cost. But this year, they wrote checks to the club, and I deposited them accordingly. So, what do I do THIS year? Enter the money from the members as a transfer from Suspense to Bank. Enter the club check to pay the member portion of BI dues as a transfer from Bank to Suspense. If you wrote a single check for both the member and club portions of dues, you'll have to enter the member portion as a transfer and the club portion as an expense (so you'll have two transactions that add up to the amount of the one check actually written). Use the comment field of the transactions to document what you did. This will leave the Suspense account balance and member units unchanged. -Jim Thomas ----- Original Message ----- From: "Thomas Hardy" <cic@bivio.com> To: <club_cafe@bivio.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 30, 2009 5:47 PM Subject: club_cafe: Re: Expenses, and how to enter them > OK, next year I'll have everyone make their checks payable > to BI, and I'll only have to worry about the Bivio and BI > club membership cost. > > But this year, they wrote checks to the club, and I > deposited them accordingly.
