How do you make a club webiste on Bivio? Thanks!
Hi Virgil,
I've been meaning on writing a little how-to for people who want to create a webiste on bivio. Here's the long answer:
The bivio server is set up to recognize the path: www.bivio.com/xxxx. The XXXX is your Club's User ID. So for example, my club's User ID is crowriver. If you go to www.bivio.com/crowriver you will see our homepage.
So, you can build a webpage on any webpage-building software, or simply create a Word document to "save as" a webpage. If you name it XXXX.html and upload it to the root of your Files page, the bivio server will know to direct anyone who types www.bivio.com/xxxx to that page.
Once the page is uploaded, you must put a checkmark in that little box to the left. The column is titled "Public". A checkmark means that people visiting your area can see that page, or any page or folder you upload. The nice thing about bivio is that you can designate any page or folder as Public, while keeping others as Private.
Here's the short answer: I've helped quite a few people build websites on bivio. Just contact me privately and I'll help you with it. For people who are not interested in learning HTML, I highly recommend a very simple homepage page that becomes a front door for your club's area. It should have a welcome message, description of your club, contact information and then direct people to your Files page where you can build folders for your club's various needs. A simple homepage does not need to be updated very often. Just keep it simple.
You will note that mine has many links and several other pages. That takes time and energy to update on a regular basis. Unless you can do that on your own, I recommend you have a simple homepage and spend your extra time studying stocks.
