How much has the average bivio registered club shrank in the
past 12 months?
I wouldn't call my club "average".  But we actually had a rather large growth spurt in 2007, growing from 9 to 15 members, the maximum allowable in our partnership agreement.  It ended up being too many people--not just for the room we use, but also for training and organizing.  This year, we lost 3 to job related situations and 3 of our newbies who didn't find the club what they thought it would be.  So now we're back to a comfortable 9 and we're not complaining.

I have said this on the boards for years:  I would much rather be in a club of 4-5 equally participating members than in a club of 20 where only 4-5 do all the work.  If our club dwindles down to that number, I would still stay.  The smaller clubs are more intimate.

Lynn, I am finding that you are definitely right.  My older club has a limit of 17 … we now have 15.  Only about 7 or 8 are really regulars.  My new club of 7 is great.  Everyone show up, does their work, and they don’t have to be reminded of when and where the meeting is going to be held.  It’s amazing how many in the larger club, say, I forgot.

And I thought the original question had to do with shrinkage in value. Shrinkage in value is tricky to assess since clubs are regularly adding money, however, it can be done by setting the date parameters appropriately in the member performance report or the performance benchmark report.

On the people count front, my club has added one member in the past year, putting us at 7.

You can compare the bivio club index against an index fund using the link below.

https://www.bivio.com/club_index/accounting/reports/benchmark?b=11/19/2007&d=11/19/2008

Both have lost around 40% of their value over the last year.

Me, too. The Club Index has been the S&P 500 over the last two years:

http://www.bivio.com/club_index/accounting/reports/benchmark?b=01/01/2007&d=11/20/2008&s=VFINX

This is quite an impressive feat imiho. The Club Index does not
include dividends, for example, which the S&P 500 does. That means
the performance is even better.

Cheers,
Rob
We just finished our first year. We started @17, lost 3 along the way for
personal reasons. We just had our annual meeting and 2 more decided to cash
out. We now have 12 and decided to limit it to 15, however it looks as if
we'll keep it at 12. With regards to our portfolio we are down roughly 35%.

So sorry!  I read the post and thought it was about members!  And that seems to be a more popular topic, since that's what people have been answering! <G>

As for the shrinkage in "value"  meaning "dollar amount".  I would hazzard a guess that, without any comparisons at all, every club has shrunk to some degree.  If they say otherwise, they are either lying or they are geniuses!
