Bivio Quotes and Club valuations Hello, When does Bivio update the market prices it uses? We have our meetings around 6pm CST and if I run a Valuation that eveneing, Bivio still uses the market close values from the day before. So we end up using Yahoo, etc. to get our current club value. Thanks, Bivio's support staff can give you a definitive answer, but I'm reasonably sure they wait until the official closing prices are available which isn't until some time between 8 and 11pm Eastern time. The raw closing prices (as of 4pm Eastern time) are subject to review and correction by the markets.

There are times when I wish the prices were updated in real time, but I know that's not possible. I know of very few clubs that use the same day as their club meeting to value their portfolios. Many of us run other portfolio reports, too, and 30 minutes after close just isn't enough time to get everything done.
If your meeting is on Sunday or Monday, you may want to consider using Friday close as your "official" valuation date for the purposing of buying and selling units and running club accounting reports. That's what we use for our Tuesday meeting.

We wait until 7p MT to update our databases. One thing we haven't done lately is checked with our data providers to see if they are providing us data earlier. I'll do that today to see if we can move the time up. > So we end up using Yahoo, etc. to get our current club > value. As others have noted, we wait for corrections. One of the things we have to do is run audits on all the clubs after we update the prices. This takes time so even if we have the prices, your reports would be incorrect, if you entered member transactions that day. It's pretty important to understand that our goal is to provide an accurate NAV (Unit value). This is why we wait for corrections to be applied by our data vendors before downloading. With everyone now adays getting used to info being updated on the web, and on their iphones, etc, quickly, they don't quite understand the delay with Bivio. Reports and transactions based on valuation dates are always subject to later correction due to clerical errors or omissions. My club doesn't consider any valuation "finalized" until after the accounting records have been verified against the broker statement (several weeks after the valuation date). We use the club meeting date as the valuation date because we consider that the most appropriate way to establish the number of units purchased by member investments. If we need to make investment decisions at a club meeting based on current stock prices, we don't expect to find those prices on the valuation statement presented at the meeting. -Jim Thomas --- On Mon, 10/27/08, Lynn Ostrem <garbagecop@gmail.com> wrote: > There are times when I wish the prices were updated > in real time, but I know that's not possible. I think you (or they) have it backwards. The instant updates that they are getting used to are subject to revision. How many times have you seen a news story which is corrected just a few hours later? It's no different with stock prices. The instantaneous information is not definitively reliable. Bivio's staff is acting prudently and in our best interests by waiting for official data.

Don't forget about the Yahoo! link on your investments page. It will give you real-time updates of your portfolio. Cheers, Rob Rob, Thanks for this info. I had seen the Yahoo link on Bivio, but had not used it. I just tried it. That's really neat. It has all the quotes for your portfolio in Yahoo. Glad you brought this to my/our attention.
