PAST INVESTMENT PERFORMANCE OF NAIC CLUBS
Is there data available that shows relative composite
investment performance of actively participating NAIC clubs?
We are seeking data regarding the top, average and lowest
performance to be utilized as a benchmark.

Also, what percentage of NAIC clubs use on-line brokers?
Don, bivio is a vendor of NAIC.  You will have to approach the mothership for the information you seek.  I believe they follow a "sampling" of clubs' returns every year, included in the NAIC Top 100, published in every April issue of BetterInvesting Magazine.  If you are a member, check it out.  Otherwise, call 1-877-ASK-NAIC.

Comparisons between investment vehicles is quite difficult. Mutual
funds hide behind the veneer of internal rate of return without
considering the tax consequences of distributions, for example.
Investment clubs have a different problem: their cash flows greatly
affect portfolio composition.

We highly recommend you compare apples-to-apples cash flows. This is
very easy to do using bivio's Performance Benchmark report:

http://www.bivio.com/my-club-site/accounting/reports/benchmark

This is arguably the best you can do to figure out if your investment
strategy is worthwhile pursuing.

I'm giving this talk at BINC this week in Schaumburg:

http://www.bivio.com/club_cafe/files/TheOnlyPerformanceNumber.pdf

It explains AIRR and the Performance Benchmark Report. The talk is
often lively, because there are so many opinions about the definition
of performance.

Cheers,
Rob
