Why is the box for Hedge Fund checked on my club's NJ tax
return? I don't recall completing any information to
indicate the club is such an entity?

I just encountered the same thing. The Hedge Fund box is checked because
investment clubs deal solely in trading and that's the NJ criteria for Hedge
Fund. If you qualify to check the Hedge Fund box, it allows you to omit
some data that other types of partnerships have to complete on the return.
Experts could explain it better, but that is the gist.
