Clubs in Different States
Our club includes members from NJ, PA and MD. Our club is
registered with the feds in NJ. I'm the treasurer living in
PA.

When I prepare the taxes with Bivio, it uses my PA address
which is where tax info should come, but I need the NJ tax
forms, not PA.

To get around this, I entered my PA address except I
substituted NJ instead of PA. I will need to manually
change the state on the NJK-1s for all the members.

Are there any other ways to get around a problem where the
treasurer doesn't live in the state where the club is
registered?

Thank you all!
Changed the subject line to more accurately describe my
question.

I'm bumping this since it doesn't look like it ever got an
answer. Also, I'm wondering where the members in other
states file. Our club is based in California, but one
member is in New Jersey. Does he need to file in California
as well as New Jersey or does he just deal with the club's
gains/losses on his NJ return?

Thanks,
Grant

He does not need to file in California. However, there are a very few states that require partnerships to file a state partnership return if they have a member who is a resident of that state, even though the partnership is registered in another state. I believe that New Jersey is one of those states. If I am correct, you would have to file both a California and NJ partnership return.

Maybe Ira, who is more familiar with the stupid/crazy partnership laws of New Jersey, can chime in here.
