Getting Started
Greetings,

Our group, FIG, is finally ready to use your service. We
are sending the appropriate documents and deposit to
Scottrade to open the account. We are considering your site
and a competitor right now, but leaning toward bivio. Here
are my questions. Please keep in mind that you will only
have to hold our hands through this initial set-up phase:

1.) How do we integrate our Scottrade account securely to
the site and can all members log on at anytime to view our
portfolio?

2.) I think I read that you can produce the year-end K-1s.
Is that true and how difficult is it to set that up?

3.) Each time we make a deposit in our Scottrade account and
each time we purchase stocks, how can we update it on this
site?

I'm certain we will have more questions, but if you can help
us over the hump with this, that will be great.

Thanks!

We download automatically from Scottrade every night. Your
members can login to bivio and see the portfolio quite easily.

Very easy, and included in our one price of $99. Most competitors
charge extra for tax products.

Our servers talk directly to Scottrade for all these items. Be sure
to read The One Minute Treasurer(tm) guide to see how bivio
works, and the best way to set up your club:

Dear Johnny:

The opening of your message makes it sound like you want a
response from bivio tech support. If so, you should direct
your questions to them through support@bivio.com.

I and most of the people participating in this list are not
employees or consultants hired by bivio.com. We are club
treasurers who use bivio to perform the duties associated
with serving as treasurer of our our clubs.

However, I can answer some of your questions and point you
in the direction of on-line help that will answer the rest.

You asked:
> 1.) How do we integrate our Scottrade account securely to the site and can all members log on at anytime to view our > portfolio?

The step by step answers to this question and the other "how
to" questions can be found in a document called the "One
Minute Treasurer" found on the bivio website. Just type the
words "one minute" in the search field on the homepage and
you will be provided the link to the document.

Once you have established your club's account in bivio and
invited your club's members to establish logins, they will
be able to view (but not change without appropriate
permissions) all data pertaining to your club, including the
portfolio report.

bivio software will prepare the Club's federal form 1065 and
k-1s (it will also prepare the tax reports for some states,
but I don't have that list as AZ is not one of them). There
is no "setup", it works just like running the other reports.
You just need to make sure you have entered the personal
data for each member, e.g. name, address, SSAN, etc, in the
club membership roster. Recent message traffic on this blog
indicates that the 2008 version is expected to be
operational around 1 February.

Once you have established the "Autosync" link between your
brokerage account and bivio, information about stock
purchases/sales/splts/dividends, will be imported
automatically from your broker into bivio. There is no data
entry required.

If you elect to use the "penny" system for your member
deposits, there is no data entry required either. Simply
mail the checks to the broker and wait for the deposit
information to be imported into bivio. If you love data
entry, you could enter all the information manually before
you mail the checks.

I hope this information helps.

Jack,

Thanks so much for your input and advice. The most
difficult part of this is getting it all going. We have ten
members and and we are finally all getting in sync regarding
meeting dates and times, bringing money and getting socials
and all other information together.

I appreciate any other advice you might want to throw my
way.

All the best,

Johnny

Johnny,

Congratulations on starting your club. There are plenty of books and
articles out there, and I recommend that you read each and every one. They
will each provide a different slant, and you will no doubt pick up some
small nugget to add to your war chest.

Let me add to that list. There's a checklist on my club's website at
www.bivio.com/crowriver under Newcomers called "So, You Want to Start an
Investment Club?" Run down the list to see if there's anything you missed.

Good luck to you,
