emails from broker don't get through
Im wondering if there's a way in bivio to allow our
automated broker emails to be accepted to the club email -
currently these emails don't get through and i think maybe
that's because bivio just blocks it as spam maybe? any
ideas?

thanks Mike

By default, your club area is private. Only members with email
addresses in to your club's Roster can send mail to your club. You
can change this if you like in your Club Configuration:

Thanks Rob,
I'm wondering, if to avoid opening it up completely, I could
make my broker a member (with no transactions) and register
the broker email that way? Would that cause a problem in
Bivio? I guess I'd have to sort out whether sending club
emails would then cause a bounce with the automated broker
messages!

cheers

I would think this might not work so well, because often brokers send
from different addresses.

If your club's email address is fairly unique, it's not likely to be
hit by spam even if you open it up. We run lots of open lists, and
they don't get hit by spam.

BTW, the biggest reason for spam is club members with viruses on their
computer. The viruses scan all addresses in the addressbook of the
infected computer, and then your club address gets in the wild,
usually paired with the from address being from the user.

While I'm off topic, here are some tips to avoid viruses of this kind:

* Use a web-based mail program, and not Outlook
* Don't run Windows: use a Mac or run Ubuntu/Linux on our PC
* Keep your antivirus software up to date, if you use Windows
* Don't download silly little programs like Weatherbug
* Buy your kids their own (used) computer; Keep them away from yours
* Use as much web-based software as possible, e.g. Quicken Online
  vs Quicken on your desktop.

Cheers,
Rob
