New Club Website

New Club Website Hi everyone, Just wanted to invite you to check out our club's new website. www.eccpweb.com Feel free to stop by the site from time to time and see what we're up to . Feel free to comment as well! Best regards! Hello Lee, I finally had an opportunity to tour www.eccpweb.com this morning. The site is very sophisticated from a webmaster's viewpoint. I'm assuming you have a professional in your club who's working with it. The site is obviously very nice, indeed. I see a lot of messages, polls, and links on the site, but not a lot of club content. Either those pages are hidden, or your club is still working on that. It will be the content that will continually draw people to your site. Good luck with your club. You've done a great job, so far. Lynn Ostrem, President garbagecop@earthlink.net Crow River Investment Club www.bivio.com/crowriver Lee, Your website is very impressive. I'd like to know more about the mechanics of the page. Is your club paying a monthly fee to a web hosting service? It's pretty straight forward and easy to do. We actually have another site that is more for ECCP members: www.electriccitypartners.com (you need a membership to access most of it). www.eccpweb.com is meant to be our public face and Im still in the process of getting it up and running so stay tuned for updates. You can create your own site for free at wordpress.com. Its basically a blog software that you can customize. I bought the domain for $8 from godaddy.com and host it there for $4 a month. The reason I pay is because you get a bit more freedom to edit the page (you have to download the software from Wordpress.org if you host it yourself...you'll need to know a bit about MySQL and PHP as well but its still fairly easy). We also have a members only site (you need an account to access it) at www.electriccitypartners.com that our treasurer hosts on one of his business servers. The site you visited earlier is going to be our public face. I use FrontPage to build and maintain my own homepage and those of my friends here on bivio. Again, I think content can cover up the fact that I use "novice" software. That, and fun graphics. So my question to you is this: Why bother having a public face separate from your main website? Is it to draw new members? Is there anything there for your members that is not on the main site? Just curious. I had our club page on geocities until we set up shop on bivio. We like it here. It's an easy one-stop shop. Anyway, I might touch base with you privately about godaddy for a different venture. Thanks for sharing your info. Lynn Ostrem, Vice President and Education Chair Crow River Investment Club garbagecop@earthlink.net www.bivio.com/crowriver Lee, Thanks for the info on Wordpress... I'll check it out! Like Lynn, I enjoy the challenges associated with developing and maintaining websites. My personal sites are hosted by Homestead for a nominal monthly fee. My next project is to design a website for our club...between you and Lynn I should be able to receive lots of expert advice! Thanks, again, for the info! Best wishes, Bob Hooper New Pueblo Investment Club Tucson, AZ Bob and Lynn, If there is anything I can do to help with your website just say the word. Lynn, to answer your question: the Wordpress site(eccpweb.com) allows to do many things, like post video, that we never got around to putting on our main site. It is also easier for our less Internet savvy members to use. Our main site (electriccitypartenrs.com) has some features that our more advanced members can use, like private message boards and the ability to set up your own personal portfolios on the site. Eventually we will probably merge them somehow but for now we're going to run them parallel. And yes, the eccpweb is nice eye candy for attracting new members when we're ready to take them on.
