Commission Fee
We recently reinvested a dividend for CNI. The dividend
purchased an additional .136 shares. Although the broker
did not charge a commission for the reinvested amount, a
$.03 commission fee appears on our bivio transaction ledger.
Where did the $.03 fee come from (if not from the broker)
and do we have to worry about it appearing on the
transaction data?
bivio, which 'has no rounding problems' throws the rounding differences on
reinvested dividends as a 'fee', but I do not believe it affects the amount
of dividend reported. I would check it, though, against your brokers
statement and the figure that shows up as dividend received in bivio. It
would be better if it took the actual fraction purchased, the actual
dividend paid, and let the 'rounding' which does really exist since you are
dealing with fractions in decimals, show up in the cost of the share, which
is immaterial in the long run. Gene
