question on my demo account
Hi members,

I am testing the demo to simulate buy/sell and to manage my
sim club.

I created my club account for my sim Broker, and I included
sim members (6) with different % ownerships.

I noticed that when I created my sim bank account with the
starting balance of $1000 this $1000 is calculated together
with my sim Broker's % ownership distribution, which I did
not want. Before I added my sim bank account of $1000, the
% ownership distribution was correct in my sim broker
account--it matched the exact % ownership, which I expected.

What am I doing wrong which causes this cumulative %
ownership calculation between my sim broker and sim bank
accounts? Is there a set up screen where I could define
these two accounts as independent accounts?

I don't want my sim bank account balance to be calculated
together with my sim broker account. To resolve this issue,
I removed my sim bank account, and the % owership
distribution returned to normal in my sim broker account.

So far, besides, this one question, bivio has what I need
for managing a club.

Thank you for your help!
Jack,

I'm not sure that I understand the problem, but I'll take a whack at it.

You're running a program that does accounting for an investment club. As
such, the program reflects all the club's assets whereever they are. In
figuring a member's worth, it is immaterial if the assets are held in a
broker a/c or a checking a/c.

I don't know how you entered your beginning balances. Did you enter
beginning balances using the 'switchover' method? Or did you start by
entering deposits for each of your members, purchases for your stocks,
etc. Using either method, you can run the cash through the bank account
and then transfer cash from that bank a/c to the broker account. This
transfer will not change the percentages of ownership.

If this misses the mark, come on back and explain your situation more
fully.

Hi Rip West,

Thank you for your suggestion. I restarted and used the
transfer option and then transferred my sim bank money to my
sim broker and everything worked out.

Before, my set up failed because I added $1000 to my sim
bank without letting the bivio program know who deposited
that sim money, which resulted in weird % ownership
distribution in my sim broker account.

Thanks again and bivio is quite nice!
