Repeating Question: Calculating Performance for 2nd Buy
on 02/08/2004 20:32 I wrote

Our club sold AES for a tax loss in 2003 and bought it again
in 2004 - long enough later to avoid a wash sale. We want
to keep track of this stock separately from the first buy
and sell. Since it downloads from the broker account, how
can we do this? We can't rename the stock (like AES2) The
performance now shows a loss because it is calculating from
the original purchase.

So far no one has answered. Does this mean it is not
possible to have a clean calculation for a 2nd buy. If so,
that is a major flaw in bivio.

I'm sorry for the delay in answering your question. The Club Cafe is
a "volunteer" forum. If you would like an immediate answer, please
email support@bivio.com. We can't answer your question in enough
detail here, because our privacy policy doesn't allow it. Also,
sometimes Club Cafe questions slip through the cracks, especially at
tax time. That being said...

The investment performance summary and detail reports allow you to
select a date range on which to calculate performance. The default
date range starts at the initial stock purchase (detail) or club's
first deposit (summary). One of the nice things about this feature is
that it avoids the "Beardstown Ladies" phenomenom, which caused the
Beardstown Ladies to include incorrect values about their performance.
