A member of my stock club is suggesting the club switch to
studying and investing in mutual funds, instead of
individual stocks. Please discuss the pros and cons of this
idea.

Investment Clubs were originally organized so that individuals could
affordably invest in stocks. They are still, to this day, for people who
choose to manage their own money. Mutual funds are managed by others and,
therefore, defeat the whole purpose. Plus, with mutual funds, individuals
can "drip" small amounts into them, making the need for the club obsolete.

If you all want to invest in funds, why not disband and start a bunko night,
instead?
