Taxes & Individual K-1 access
Is there going to be a way for club members to access their
respective K-1s or will the club administrator still be
responsible for printing and distributing them? Some time
ago I asked Rob Nagler about this and he indicated that it
was being considered. Granted that SSNs are to be kept
confidential, it would be great if there was a means to
allow this.
Steven,

Why? Currently, there are 3 levels of access to the site. We
administrators have access to all the information, the members have access
to most, and the visitors have restricted access. If you allow one member
to have access to the taxes, then he would probably have access to all of
them. If an unhappy member wanted to wreak havoc, having access to social
security numbers and having the ability to print erroneous tax returns would
definitely be one way to do it!

Once the returns are printed and handed out, there really is no relevant
reason to go back into that file. I hope Rob keeps it the way it is.

And for further security, our club chooses not to post social security
numbers (or bank/broker account numbers for that matter) on our Bivio
website. The tax forms allow us to type them in just prior to printing.
That's a nice touch.

So I guess my question for you is, why would it be important for your
members to access their K-1's after tax time?

Some clubs are distributed, and it is more convenient for treasurers
to allow members to print out their own K-1s. We'll probably add a
feature to allow members access to their own K-1s after the tax
interview has been completed by the treasurer. We'll announce this in
January.

Rob
For two very simple and practical reasons, 1) the membership
can access them as soon as they are available and avoid
nagging the Treasurer, and 2) hold down club expenses by
printing it themself instead of placing the task on the
Treasurer and creating an expense

I thought that was obvious.

An even nicer touch is the Account Sync feature... and that
requires brokerage account information. If you login to
Bivio using secure mode (the lock in the lower left hand
corner) you'll be fine.
Can't you just save each K-1 tyo a PDF file, and mail that
file to the member
to print? Then the member is responsible for printing their
own K1, and
will have afile to refer to later.
