club_cafe: K-1's for 2002
I can't speak for bivio's schedule for releasing the tax software, but I wouldn't expect it much, if any, before December 31. In any event, that is irrelevant because if your club disbands in November, you have until 3/17/03 to file your final 1065. I'm sure the software will be available before then. <vbg>

The one thing I would caution you about is to make sure that you don't own any stocks which have gone ex-dividend before you sell them. If you do, make sure to account for the dividend you will be receiving before you calculate the final distributions. Also, make sure to set aside money (if necessary) to cover the costs of preparing and distributing your final returns.

When you prepare the return, make sure to check the "final return" box(es) where appropriate and include the dissolution date on the top of the 1065 and Schedules K-1.

Our ckub has decided to disband effective 11/15. I am in the
process of liquidating the portfolio. This should be
complete by months end. Will I be able to print K-1's this
year for 2002 activity or will I have to wait until January?
I need to pass this info on to the members.

P.S. Any additional info related to closing the books on a
club that you can pass on will be appreciated.

Looking at our portfolio, Duke-Weeks Realty (DRE),
Ingersol-Rand(IR), Paychex(PAYX), and Philip-Morris all pay
dividends. I've verified that we will have one more dividend
distribution from DRE at month-end. I believe the same
applies to IR. MO and PAYX are iffy.
How do I enter this info in Bivio? Do I have to wait until
the paid-date of the dividend before closing out the books
(roughly a week or so) or can I enter the figures now if I
know what they are. I'd like to distribute the club funds as
soon as possible. What I dont want to do is cut any corners,
especially if there are tax implications.
Regards.
