LM ERICSSON TELEPHONE rights transaction Our Club exercised the rights offered by ERICY for 120 units for $ 50.40 plus a $25.00 transaction fee. We cannot find a choice in the Investment sub-titles to use to record the transaction. Can anyone please help. PETER K MUKASA-MAGOYE wrote:

First determine cost basis of the rights. Do this by multiplying the total cost basis of the ERICY shares by 0.2128. For example if you owned 120 shares ERICY with a cost basis of $400, then the rights' cost basis would be $85.12. Record a "Return of Capital" transaction on the day before you exercised the the rights for the amount above. On the day the rights were exercised, record a buy of ERICY. The amount paid should be the amount of the rights' cost basis, plus the amount paid to exercise the rights. For example, if the rights had a $85.12 cost basis, and you paid $50.40 to exercise, then record a buy for $135.52. Record the transaction fee in the "Service Fee" field. If, instead, your club received the rights, but sold them rather than exercised them, then you would record the transaction as a spin-off to ERICR, followed by a sale of the ERICR shares.
