Groups as partners and taxes

Groups as partners and taxes Please help! We have 20 partners in our club. 5 of the partners are actually groups that consist of three or more people. Only one of the groups actual has their own TIN. As the club treasurer, how should I report to the IRS for the other groups? I would suggest three things: First, read your partnership agreement and see who signed it. Those are your only partners. If signed as individuals, then they are individual partners. If signed as a representative of another partnership, then the other partnership is a partner in your club. You can have individuals as partners; you can have partnerships as partners; you can have corporations as partners; but you can't have "groups" as partners. Second, edit all of your club accounting entries to reflect the reality of point one. Third, if this doesn't solve your problem (as treasurer) run, don't walk, to find paid professional tax assistance. The fines for screwing up the partnership return and K-1s are totally out-of-proportion to the dollar amounts of the entries on your Form 1065 and K-1s.
