Difference in valuation
Hi - I noticed that two of my club's holdings have different
valuations in my bivio valuation report and on our
Waterhouse account valuations for the end of the month.
What has caused this and which numbers are correct?

There's no easy answer to this question. Price differences do occur
between different sources. bivio uses the same source as Yahoo! and a
few other large sites. TD Waterhouse uses another vendor.

It's important to understand that the end of month market value is
something that is going to vary with data source. This is not a
problem in itself. It's just different. Your club's unit value
depends on it, but any difference you see between data sources
probably is only a few tenths of a percent in your club's total market
value. What's most important is that you don't switch data
suppliers.

We work hard at bivio to make sure our quote database is clean and
reliable. We switched vendors last year to Commodity Systems,
Inc. which is widely regarded to be of the highest quality. We wait
until CSI delivers their final prices and we apply corrections (and
re-audit your books automatically) as soon we get them.

This doesn't mean it is always "right". If you find a discrepancy
between our data and, say, Yahoo! or MSN, please email
support@bivio.com and we'll look into it. We do what you do, however.
We look around the Internet at various other databases to see what the
difference is.

I hope this answers your question.

Cheers,
Rob
