Ameritrade
We are currently moving our club trading accounts from TD
Waterhouse to Ameritrade due primarily to rising expenses
with trading at TDW. Has anyone had any bad experiences with
Ameritrade ? So far, their response line is better, they
take faxed signatures on documents, and their fees are
lower. The only bad that I have seen is they only pay
interest on Money Market accounts over $2000. Does anyone
have anymore downside with Ameritrade ??
Bob - Our club has had an account with Ameritrade for almost three years.
We have been very satisfied with their service.
Recently, we also opened an account with BuyandHold.com We have also
been very satisfied with this service, and the fees are much less than
Ameritrade. We are not required to maintain any cash funds in our trading
account; instead, our local savings account is debits through ACH for
purchases and/or fees. I would recommend you look into BuyandHold before
making any final decision.

We recently moved our account from E*Trade to BuyandHold.
Monthly fee is $6.99 which covers 2 trades per month. We
started our B&H Money Market account with $90 and received
interest. I was pleased with the help I received from B&H -
just called them and got the answers I needed ASAP. The
club is pleased with the portfolio printout,
which we use for our meeting.

Thats the same reason our club decided not to move from Ameritrade...

Our club also uses Ameritrade and I have been fairly happy.
About 4 months ago they raised their amount to draw interest
on a MM from $1,000 to $2,000, as you noted, and that kinda
irked me. Aside from that it was been a good experience.

Also, let me say that they are more stable than Buy & Hold,
and Buy & Hold could certainly fold or be bought in the next
year to two which might cause your club to incur fees, not
to mention the hassle of moving securities around to new a
new broker/dealer. Just my 2 cents, be careful of a
non-established entity like B&H that has been in existence
for less than 5 years.

Bob, we use Ameritrade also and are pleased with them.
Note that Ameritrade charges $2.00 per month for USPO
mailing of
trade confirmatioms ... it is free if you select e-mail for
confirmations.
Good luck, Barbara Molloy
Bob,

I agree with Barbara. Our investment club was started just
three months ago and we did a lot of research on the
different discount brokerages. Ameritrade has worked out
very well for us as their paperwork was straightforward and
uncomplicated. Fast executions and low commissions.

As for the money market interest, I do believe Ameritrade
does pay interest for balances less than $2,000. Our
account was opened with $2,000, but after trades in
September, our money market balance was only a few dollars
on Oct. 1. For the month of October, we did receive
interest on our money market balance.

Good luck!
