Valuation Date
Help!

I am the treasurer of a new group and have been inputting
our books to bivio and to NAIC Club Accounting. I cannot
figure out what date to put into the valuation date field
when you enter the members payments. Am I wrong to say that
NAIC software does not require this for each time you enter
the payments? What date do I put in? We opened our bank
account in Feb and our Broker account in August and just
bought shares on Sept. 15. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Sharon

This date is set by the club and should be stated in your Partnership
Agreement. If not this is something that as a club needs to be decided
upon.

Our club has its meetings every 2nd Monday of the month. So we value the
club based on the closing prices of the Friday before. This was done so
that prices could be taken from the internet on Saturday or Sunday
(whenever the Treas. got around to it). With Bivio, however you don't
have to worry about getting the prices since it will get them for you,
you just need to worry about the date. I know that is your question, but
it really doesn't matter as long as the date is consistent for all
members. Theoretically Bivio values your club everyday, the 1.4 NCA
software only values the club when the Treas. inputs prices of
securities. Not sure about the new NCA 2.0 it may also download prices
at the end of the day as well, like Bivio.

If you bought shares on Sept. 15th, then Bivio would have used that date
as the valuation date unless you told it to use a different date. I
haven't used NCA 1.4 in awhile but if I recall correctly it does require
you to have a valuation date before payments can be entered. Again I am
not sure how 2.0 handles it.

Bottom line: choose a consistent date to value the club and keep it the
same for all member payments. In today's day and age you could probably
value your club 2 minutes prior to your meeting if you wanted to...
