member in different state
We have a potential member who resides in Massachusetts desiring to join our club in New York? Can this work. I can run federal tax forms for her , but presume she will need to take responsibility for her Massachusetts forms.
It could be worse. Depending on state tax laws, the club may be required to file as an entity in that member's state.
I'm the treasurer of two investment clubs located in Northeast Ohio. Both clubs prohibit out of state residents as members.
Example: .A Pennsylvania resident as a member in either club would require that club to file the appropriate Pennsylvania tax returns

While these questions are best answered through Support, I can tell you that your club will NOT need to prepare a MA Form 3 return because of your new member. MA only requires that clubs based in MA file a MA tax return.
