General Partnership Formation Documents
At some point in 2008 I formed an investment club using
Bivio. With the whole transfer from TD Ameritrade to Schwab
my account has been broken similar to everyone else (I can
no longer withdraw funds to a linked personal checking
account). One solution they suggested was opening a
checking account in the investment clubs name with a
different bank. I have the partnership agreement and the
tax returns but I don't have copies of any general
partnership formation documents or an SS-4 with the
EIN/Tax-ID. I have tried calling both TD Ameritrade and
Schwab but that doesn't work. I can't remember how I did
it back in 2008 and I have no idea what documents I had at
the time (whatever they were is long gone). Does anyone
know how to obtain a document from the IRS like the SS-4
showing the Tax-ID or any other way to get a checking
account open in the name of the club.
Your tax id, the EIN will be on each 1065 return you filed.

To Clarify I have the EIN number on my Tax Return but didn't
have the IRS document proving it that the banks require to
open a business checking account. Someone else pointed me
in the right diretion and I called the IRS (if you google
lost EIN they have the phone number).

After verifying all my info with the club's tax return they
were able to fax me a replacement form proving the EIN and
that the entity is active. I believe that will allow me to
open the business checking, link that to the Schwab account,
transfer money out to the business checking, then write
outgoing checks or transfer money to partners
Call your banker and find out what else they might need. Our bank required state registration in good standing. If your bank requires it, you need to go through that process first.

Actually, I keep thinking that Fidelity would be a better option.

That is interesting. I just used the tax return that we had filed as proof of the TIN. Did not need the SS4.
