I am mailing my Federal and GA State tax returns tomorrow. I have requested an extension. Do I need to send certified mail, receipt requested?

Personally, I always mail certified, return receipt requested. However, the Regs state that as long as you mail it certified and you retain the initial (green and white with the postmark) receipt, you are good. The return postcard is extra insurance.

Return Receipt is a waste of money. I sent extension and return to IRS and still haven't received signed green card . Certified green and white slip tracked both were delivered.
But I send documents to my cpa one was sent on March 1 and was not received by cpa but tracking showed it delivered to individual on Sunday March 13 which was not true but was finally delivered to her mailbox on March 18th but no signature. When I questioned it they told me the post person signs it. I received the green card yesterday with nothing on it .
I can only hope that the tracking is correct on the extension and the return that IRS really did receive them. If the person that is suppose to get the mail doesn't sign the green card why bother as long as you have the tracking (if that is correct)

So quick question: Our post office has a kiosk where one gets a printed receipt with the date . One gets the stamps, and certification, but I do not usually ask for return receipt because I can track the delivery online. I ask the postal clerk and she tells me that the printed receipt is the replacement for the green and white receipt. In your opinion, is that printed, dated receipt sufficient?

I was able to track the tax package and it gave me the exact time and where it was delivered. That should be your receipt. We closed our Acct the end of Dec. I mailed the taxes on time and the only thing I didn't know about was signing up for CPAR. Really not sure what that will do. Bivio rep Joanne was very helpful getting my questions answered. Thank you Joanne.
Bivio has been very good for us. We started the club in 1963 and when some members wanted to close out (due to age) several of us wanted to continue. About that same time I found Bivio. I thought it was too good to be true. But it worked so well that we continued for 15 more years. It was a good journey.
DONT BLAME BIVIO FOR THE TAX ISSUE THIS YEAR. They've been a great help for our Marketeers Investment Club. I was the only charter member so I was elected to close our Acct.

Yes, but the thing I don't understand is that I have to be the one that puts it in the mailbox--I do not hand it to a postal clerk. So, theoretically I could get the receipt and mail it two weeks later. That would be stupid, but it is already postmarked with the date that I got the receipt.
