How can we send a message to the Congress members who matter
So...what specific legislation led to this morass?

I speed-read the AICPA letter, but don't see that it cites
the specific legislation, much less the nitwits who proposed
and passed it. Those are the people I want to write to.

Does it make sense to write to the House Ways and Means
Committee? Would they be the ones who wote and sponsored
this legislation?

Somehow, we need to convey to our Senators and
Representatives that there are real people who suffer the
consequences of poorly written or ill-conceived legislation.

I can write to my congress members, but I need to be more
specific than just blathering on about k-2's and k'3s and
long forms without being able to point to the specific
cause.
One question I thought of is "who is going to go through our tax submissions?". It would take a week to figure out what activities are going on.

The legislation that created this mess was Subtitle D of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.

THANK YOU!

It helps to have specifics.

Another aspect to include when writing to Congresspeople is that the IRS has been starved of resources and funding for years, such that they are severely understaffed and lacking in basic tools to carry out the work, not to mention this additional complication that's thoughtlessly been dumped on them. The New York Times has an article that looks into this.
