CPAR?

In looking back I see that some clubs have filed a CPAR?? Please tell us what that is and whether our small club of 10 members missed something? Thank you.

It may not provide any comfort, but the IRS won't guarantee that they can process partnership returns with Schedules K-2 and K-3 until March 20 which is after the regular due date. This is a situation, like COVID was in 2020, that is beyond anyone's control.

This answer is so vague. We need some certainty on the date when these forms will be available.
The IRS is not forgiving late filing penalties. Not even due to Covid. I had to pay $2400 in a late fee for 2020. I'm not doing this again...

@Alessandro - Was it simply due to covid or was it due to some other unforeseen circumstances, you had to file late? Hence, resulted in having to be penalized by the IRS? This is our first year and I am really concerned.

Alessandro,

There can be no certainty. There are many steps that need to be completed before software can be released. Even though your club disbanded in 2021, you can still file for an extension to file your final return. Doing so is prudent. Choosing not to do so is at your own risk.

The original question in this thread was about CPAR. That stands for the Centralized Partnership Audit Procedures. This explains more about it:

New IRS Audit Procedures - Our Recommendations - club_cafe - bivio Investment Clubs

We also discussed it in our recent tax webinar. You can find a link to that presentation and a recording here:

The Congress has its own schedule for passing tax legislation.  The IRS has to wait for Congress to decide what the tax laws are, whether a provision will be extended or not. After Congress decides, and passes legislation, only then can the IRS get to work on forms. Once IRS completes the forms and instructions, Bivio has to code.

Many ststes base their state tax forms/decisions off the federal. Again, the longer the Congress takes ...

I had to change my Microsoft Edge settings from automatic to entering username and password each time I logged in. I was locked into Club Cafe and could not access the links I needed for reports and tax accounting.

2020 was Covid related and we could not meet in time to consolidate our records. We were under the impression that the extension applied to partnerships filling by March 15th. That year the IRS gave an extension on Individual returns but not for 1065 filing. The following year we filed on-time March 10th and yet we were assessed a penalty because according to the IRS, they received it late March 30th. I replied several times with proof that we filled on-time and that was an issue on their side or with the USPS. They have not yet removed the penalty and instead they are asking us to pay or they will place a lien on property.

The IRS is not forgiving late filing penalties. Not even due to Covid. I had to pay $2400 in a late fee for 2020. I'm not doing this again...

It may not provide any comfort, but the IRS won't guarantee that they can process partnership returns with Schedules K-2 and K-3 until March 20 which is after the regular due date. This is a situation, like COVID was in 2020, that is beyond anyone's control.

The calendar year 2020 COVID due date extensions (tax year 2019) didn't apply to partnerships because the IRS decision to extend the due date to July 15 was made on March 21, after the partnership filing due date had passed.

Your calendar year 2021 problem (tax year 2020) is probably caught in the paper backlog. The penalty and lien notices are automatically generated by computer. Only recently has the IRS agreed to suspend sending them until they get caught up with their communications. You should be able to prevail on this issue.

Same thing happened to our club. We were notified in October that we had filed late, I sent a response with documentation that we had filed on time. I next talked with them in December and they had put a nine week hold on any decision, and they were just getting to September correspondence then. I talked with them again in January and they put another nine week hold on any response, and have not been able to reach the IRS since. So far no further action.
