Our club is considering Chewy stock which is a little confusing in the ownership. This article says "common stock and its related subsidiaries, effectively eliminating Chewy as a subsidiary of PetSmart. ... The leading US retailer acquired the pet e-commerce platform in May 2017. Chewy would continue to be owned by BC Partners, which acquired PetSmart and its subsidiaries in March 2015. I am still wondering about whether Chewy stock will be a problem with our taxes next year because it sounds like it is a British owned company. Does anyone know?

If you look at a SSG of CHWY and look under the "Data" tab in the upper right and click on the first option "Company Basic Data" you will see that the Stock Data does NOT click on the ADR link. A check mark here would indicate it is a foreign company. Also you can go directly to the company's website from your open SSG by clicking on "Research" tab in the upper right and selecting the 2nd option of "Company Website". That will take you directly to CHWY's website. It is clearly an American company.

Kevin,
How do you do your SSG's? I tried what you wrote and couldn't do it.
TIA,

I don't know what you mean. I do SSGs. I follow the BI method. So please explain what you mean.

I still have the old Stock Analysis program and I got to Stock Central and get my SSG's from there, they then download into my Stock Central Software. I hope this helps. I went to my Stock Central, brought up an SSG on one of our stocks to try to go to the Data Tab and Company Basic Data, etc.
Thank you,
Maggie

The way I mentioned is for those that use the BI Online Tools. Toolkit 6 is great. But there is not a way to go straight from the SSG to the company. Please remember using a desktop software, as Toolkit is, in 2021 is limited in what you can do. The Online tools are more connected to the internet. It can be shared with your partners more seamlessly. You can compare competitors in the Online Tools faster and more efficiently than with Toollit. Keep in mind Toolkit has not had an update in several years. In short, you might want to switch. If you are a BI member you already have the Online Tools. My club switched 5 years ago. Very pleased.

When answering questions like this, there are two good places to start:
1. The Investor relations pages for the company. Often there is a FAQ section. For Chewy, this indicates it is a common stock traded on the NYSE. That is good.
2. Another is the wikipedia page that describes the company's history.

Thank you for the help. Our club will probably just leave this one alone as it seems to be very hard to actually get to the bottom of.
