Someone in our club brought up purchasing Gold. Are there Gold Stocks? Seems like we looked into this once before and it wouldn't work.
Can someone enlighten me.
Thank you,

You can get a GOLD ETF like: GLD
If you want something more aggressive like a 3x ETF = NUGT (but be very careful with this one as they are very volatile. 3 times more than the usual ETF shown in this screenshot.

You could look into mining stocks.

There is a symbol GLD, in which I have some (too much) investment. There are also mining stocks, one I invested in was Ashanti Gold, operating in Africa. That one I consider was a better investment. However I would question whether an investment club is best using its talents to invest in gold. These things follow patterns that are an ill fit to Better Investing's well described approach.

BetterInvesting magazine had as its Stock To Stock (STS) a gold mining company in Canada called Kirkland Lake Gold (KL). I believe it was the Dec 2020 stock. Read the article and see if that is something your club would consider.

Is the best thing to use in certain cases, or really good contact an electrical connections, it is bought principally for decoration and a source of wealth to be displayed on arms and fingers.
You can find penny stocks and posts extolling The tremendous wealth in the mountains of gold ore held by the penny stock companies. They do not mention extraction cost.
Speculation drives the price of gold up and down.
Gold is no longer the basis of currency. It does have uses, but they pale compared the demand for jewelry.

You have to be very careful about investing in Gold or you will have tax reporting issues to deal with which are not part of the services you get from bivio.
GLD is a problem.
Actual physical gold would create all types of problems.
Some of the gold miners may be OK.
It is best to send us a ticker and have us look it up for you before you purchase it.

My investment club invested in GLD. Had to hire my accountant to do our taxes that year. Stay away

The same goes for silver, like SLV. If you don't want to complicate your club accounting then stay away from any stocks/ETFs that hold physical precious metals. The way that these companies collect their fees is by selling the precious metal each month.

We purchased GOLD (Barrick Gold Corp). Are we going to have the same Bivio problems that were mentioned with GLD?
