What is a good number of stocks a club should own?

I've been told two guidelines:
One to two stocks per member -- this assumes each member follows at least one stock but probably no more than two. This may not iapply to officers who are giving their time in other ways.
It is possible for a portfolio of 12-16 to be adequately balanced -- this presumes carefully selected stocks which are spread over most of the sectors, giving attention to company size as well.
It will be interesting to hear what advice others have been given.

I have found that no more than two stocks per Partner with Officers not following a stock because of other duties. I have seen studies, regardless of a person or Club portfolio, once you hit about 20 stocks the portfolio return does not improve proportionally.

Our club decided some years ago that 2 stocks per member was the maximum we could watch conscientiously.
