Guest Speakers at Investment Club Meetings
Have any clubs experimented with having guest speakers come and present/educate at your club meetings? If so, which types of speakers and/or topics have you found to be the most well received?
Our club has had representatives from Schwab, TRPrice, Fidelity come to
explain market trends and stock market transactions. A member/partner who
has an account with said firm makes the invitation on behalf of the club.
Presenter is given <30 minutes during our education part of our standard
agenda. Also includes a sales pitch for the firm. Hope this helps.

Contact your local chapter of BetterInvesting for a club visit. They'll review your portfolio, discuss how to complete an SSG, perform portfolio analysis, or any number of investing related tasks.

Years ago, before Marriott split up, my club held our annual meeting at the then new JW Marriott Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC.  We had a small private dining room; I invited the General Manager to join us; and had requested a behind the scenes hotel tour.  It was the best meeting we ever held with a guest speaker.

I'd think regional HQ offices of some of your equities might be able to provide a speaker at a meeting and maybe a behind the scenes tour.  Especially if they are selling products in your region made in their facility.

Such activities keep club partners' interest sparked for months.  And is a positive to share with potential new partners.

We have had speakers, including brokers and estate planners in our community. We usually ask them to discuss a specific topic: ETFs one time, explain Bitcoins to us (that one was a bust....) We also attend corporate annual meetings and regional BI meetings. We also invited grandsons of members to tell us and demonstrate video games, and drones (at different times)

We have had Chapter Directors visit and that is very helpful.

On two other occasions we had outsiders (people in the field) give presentations, or just listen and give feedback.
It was interesting to hear. One commented that he was surprised we didn't discuss general economic indicators. Another had his own simple method of finding possible companies to study using Investors Business Daily (IBD). We avoid having someone who has something to sell or an interest in recruiting new clients.

I do know one or two brokers whom I would trust, but have not invited them because that opens the door for everyone to invite their broker-friend and I think that would devolve into a disaster. That isn't to say that brokers couldn't offer expertise on some interesting and worthwhile topics.

I can imagine outsiders helping us learn more about topics that would be useful to us personally such as mortgages, insurance, taxes, IRAs and 401ks, bonds, MLPs and so on.
