That may be true if you are doing it strictly online but not if you consider some of the others. Edward Jones has been nothing but cooperative with my club for 19 years. AS I READ ALL OF THE DCOMPALINTS O0N Bivio, I am really glad that I can call and get a real person--financial advisor or her secretary

We use TD Ameritrade after it purchased Scottrade. TD Ameritrade has not presented us with any problems, either online or with a broker. We use it as a bank and as a trading entity.
For the club that uses Edward Jones: There are many reasons to use a particular brokerage firm, but I would check the commission rates and compare with TD Ameritrade. I believe one club in this discussion uses E-Trade and I would check that out also.

Our club uses Computershare for some of ours and when I took over as Treasurer I started using Edward Jones for new stocks we purchased. I have had nothing but trouble with Computershare. We have eight accounts under them, however they just started letting me go online with five of them in April. Of course they didn't tell me till I asked in December. The other three I still have to call for everything. Nothing is easy. When I took over the account we must have made five trips to the bank for Notary or Silver Medallions or Letters of Instruction. Each different company under Computershare had a different requirement as what they could use to change the address and name on it. Every time I asked about going on line I was told no. I still have two accounts that I haven't been able to change from reinvested dividends to dividend checks and haven't been able to send them paperwork that will allow them to do that. Although I have sent them a few different documents they are never good enough. I've had problems with some of the accounts because of previous transactions before my time. They wouldn't accept what I needed for verification so would have to do something else. It took me months to get the stuff sent to me. Also if I have a problem I'm on the West Coast and they are on the East Coast so if I don't get to it early I miss them.
On the other hand, the ones we have with Edward Jones I can call and she will look up the information I need. I can go into the office with the officers and they can change an account over. I can talk to someone if there is a problem. I don't have to do it by snail mail. And we do pay more for the transactions but in the long run it is well worth it to me.
I don't see anyone mention Computershare so don't know how our Club got started with it but wouldn't recommend it to anyone. TD Ameritrade might be good. We just haven't used them.

Peter: If I remember, Compushare does business with many companies; it provides the back office for Dividend Reinvestment Plans as they existed before brokerages began performing that service at no cost. Each DRIP has its own rules as established by the company, its own costs, its own recordkeeping requirements and its own headaches.
Many years ago, BI provided a service to get clubs started in DRIPs at no or low brokerage cost when brokerage transaction costs were 5 to 10 time higher than they are now. It was a great and badly needed service for the small individual investor and small investment clubs. I had about 15 of them myself about 30 years ago.
IMO the best path for Ms Duck's club would be to sell their fractional shares, prepare Letters of Instruction for each account to deliver the whole shares into their brokerage. The problem is then gone forever. The club should assure that it has good cost basis information on the transferred shares.

I would like to submit a supportive statement in regards to Bivio as well. During the time that I served as financial partner for our partnership they have been very accessible, knowledgeable and responsive to all situations brought to them.
Thank you, Ann Merrick
