One of the members of the Model Club of Northern Virginia moved to Indiana. She resigned from the club 1 1/2 years ago. The club has recently obtained equipment to have members join the club meetings online and she would like to rejoin, but she is concerned that she would have difficulties with state taxes in Indiana and also in Virginia.
I explained that she need not worry about Virginia, because the club does not file Virginia Income Tax forms. But now I am concerned that with one member in Indiana, if they require taxes to be filed for partnerships that will add extra work for the treasurer. Does anyone know if Indiana requires Investment Club partnerships to file state taxes?
Thanks for your help,

The Indiana Code requires that any partnership with an Indiana-resident partner file an Indiana IT-65 return, but the instructions for the form state that only partnerships "doing business" or deriving income from Indiana sources have to file. "Doing business" is defined in a manner that would seem to exclude investment clubs from having to file. I would contact a competent tax professional familiar with Indiana tax laws for a definitive answer.
