How To Keep Interest In Your Investment Club Alive

Hi All,

An investment club is a long term relationship and some clubs have trouble sustaining interest once the initial "honeymoon" period is over.

Do any of you have any thoughts about how to do this that you'd like to share? We've had a request from a club asking about what they might try and I told them I'd ask for your feedback.

We found we were spending too much time reviewing our existing stocks (that we were not proposing to buy more of or sell) and not allowing enough time for the important issues like sells and buys. So now we email our existing stock updates and spend our time together each month talking about the existing stocks we want to sell or buy more of and any new buys. Everyone is prepared with SSGs and VL reports on these stocks and we have good discussions.

We also have an annual review of each stock scheduled throughout the year.

Education, Education, Education: Establish a 20 to 30 minute time frame dedicated to the universe of educational topics available. Bivio offers a 'Club Home Pages' section which are open for anyone to view. Many clubs post their education segments which is a great resource for education segments.

Education has always been 'the answer' but I'm going to
suggest that I see my club discussions become more lively
when they discuss a new company. We often (usually) don't
buy them. But, learning what they do can be very
interesting. Not to mention that learning whether or not
they make money doing what they do is interesting.
