I see you mentioned that your club has their brokerage account with Scottrade.
May I ask what kind of monthly fee your club pays to Scottrade?  Bill
$7 for each trade. When one of our members decides to open a personal account and permit us to recommend them to Scottrade, they get 3 free trades and the club gets three free trades.

You may want to check out Foliofn for your stock broker for a more reasonable monthly fee.

Thank, but we don't want to deal with fractions of stocks.

I'm a fan of ETrade. They include a lot of useful features & functions, including quick phone access to helpful tech support and the cost is $9.99 per trade. Considering we do not trade frequently, that trade cost is not a big factor. ETrade has always treated us as a valuable customer, regardless of account balance. Service is definitely worth something, and in this case it doesn't cost much to get a lot of service & features.

David, the online discount brokers that I know about do not charge a monthly fee, nor an annual fee.

A couple of points: Scottrade does not charge a fee when you
close or transfer your account, and if you are moving from
another broker I believe they will reimburse your account
withdrawal fee from that broker. I just checked it is up to
$100 for an account valued over $10,000.00.

Folio Investing offers no commission accounts to Investment
Clubs that have at least 4 dues paying BetterInvesting
members. They do have fees for transferring out your
account. Also you do not have to deal with partial shares
if you don't want to. That is an option that you can setup
and control.

In the interest of full disclosure My personal accounts are
at Scottrade and my original Investment club [since
disbanded] had their club account there. I belong to two
Model Clubs that both have accounts at Folio one moved from
TD Ameritrade. [And I don't get any benefit from
recommending either of them]
