We sold a stock this year that back in 2011 gave dividends
as "cash in lieu of"
which changed the cost basis to look different than the cost
basis in bivio.
How do I fix this in bivio?

Hi Karen,

Cash in lieu is the sale of a fractional share that you received in a reorganization. It needs to be entered as a sale because it changes the cost basis of your shares.

Before the new cost basis reporting laws kicked in, brokers sometimes showed the amount incorrectly as a dividend on your tax forms. That doesn't mean you should have accounted for it as a dividend.

If you need help getting this straightened out in your accounting, send us the brokerage report you are looking at that shows the cost basis of each of the lots you sold and we can help you get things fixed up. Send it to support@bivio.com

I talked to the broker again and BP did pay a dividend each
quarter but the also gave a tax credit along with that which
decreased our cost basis. I think this is what we are
talking about. Can I fix this or do you need the info from
our broker.

BP is a complicated one.

We can help you match what the broker did, but we do need to see what they did to do that.

I'm getting this mail by mistake. I don't know any of the parties involved.
