Jeanne,
Our club faced this situation when the president (of our club) visited me
in Florida during our March meeting and we knew that two other members would be
out of town as well. We wound up Skyping, so the two of us could be "present"
for votes on trades. Since then, we have used this method to keep our traveling
members with us when they would have missed a meeting entirely.

Another free possibility is www.webex.com ,which is similar to go-to-meeting, allowing users to share screens for presentations. This site is offered by Cisco.
The down side is the limit is three attendees. We use it when members are traveling or otherwise unable to physically be at the meeting.

This is a good idea. Skype now offers group video calling for free for up to 10 people.
As Peg notes, that might give you another option to get together for a discussion if you all can't get together in person.

Video conferencing has worked well for the Crow River club, too. We've used it for traveling members or to allow visitors to sit in on our meetings. It's best not to use it in a public environment. Background noice makes it hard for the online people to hear. Also, a wide angle camera shot is good so you are not having to change the camera view for the people joining to see everyone. We also find it helpful to add a set of speakers if it's a laptop.

We are an Internet based club and found Skype too limiting. We use a free product called Team Viewer that allows us to share our computer screens as well as voice. I'm not sure of the max, but it is at least 10 people can be involved. That way, we can discuss SSGs, look up something on Google, Finviz or anything on our computer. We can also allow others on the call to share the information fro their computer screen, not just the person organizing the call.
