No quorum

No quorum Just wondered what other clubs do when attendance starts to decline and we often end up not having a quorum? We have allowed absentees to send in a report on their stock but that seems to give them license to be absent without guilt. We have allowed voting by email but that also Allows for more absenteeism. Any suggestions? Must be present to vote. You can add a provision that states that once or twice a year they can vote by email/phone due to vacation/illness, etc. Whatever gets the most votes wins. Any suggestions? My two clubs chose a different route. Our partnership agreements both indicate that whoever attends a regularly scheduled meeting at the regularly scheduled location constitutes a quorum, even if that is only one person. And those person(s) can complete whatever business comes before the membership. Neither club has ever been below a true quorum by more than one person. Any suggestions? We have a similar rule. Any attending member can vote. We do stipulate, however, if there are so few members present (not a quorum) they cannot affect more than 10% of our portfolio. We've got over 100k so there's still a bunch of wiggle room. We are all busy moms and we didn't want anyone to feel bad if they couldn't make the meeting. Our goal is education not stressing people out. :-) Cheers, Kimberly C 608.444.6898
Our club bylaws state that a quorum are the members at the meeting. Our attendance is great and we never have a problem. On Monday, June 9, 2014 8:30 PM, Kimberly Hazen

Do you have a partnership agreement or bylaw that specifies actions for 3 missed meetings or attendance issues? The club is a business. If people are not attending, the issue may be time for them to move on. If they are not attending, yet membership exists to include on quorum, you can either put up with it, or have an honest discussion individually with them or with the club as a whole? If there are a few people doing this, is the education program robust and keeping people engaged? Is the principal partner/ president keeping the meeting on track/using Roberts Rules so meetings are not bogged down? Be Well. Jeanne,
Our club faced this situation when the president (of our club) visited me
in Florida during our March meeting and we knew that two other members would be
out of town as well. We wound up Skyping, so the two of us could be "present"
for votes on trades. Since then, we have used this method to keep our traveling
members with us when they would have missed a meeting entirely. Last meeting ,
we had to resort to a phone call in order to place a sell order. The person we
called was at another meeting she had to attend since she was presiding!
This is not the best way to do things, in person is always best, but it
does maintain a quorum.
