If that is the case then Jack is right. You are dealing with what is known as an escheatment issue.

If you hold an asset that does not belong to you (the former partner's investment value), the value eventually must be transferred to the State. You will need to contact your state's Unclaimed Property Office. (It may be called the Escheat Office.) Ask them for guidance since state law governs here.

To track this amount separately in bivio, you should enter a withdrawal as being paid from a temporary or suspense account. You can create an account to use for this on the Accounting>Accounts screen. When you figure out where to send the money, account for it by entering a transfer to move the money from your brokerage account in bivio to the temporary suspense account in bivio to zero it out.
