Correction for LOWES Companies (LOW)
The Autumn Chase Women Investment Club sold 69 shares of LOW
stock on 02/06/13 and retained 7.778 shares. The shares
held and price per unit/share agree in
Bivio and Broker as of 2/28/14. The total cost and market
value differ. Bivio's
total cost is $175.67 and Broker's total cost is $198.11.
Market value differs by
$0.01. The transaction shows 02/06/2013 ruthys43 sell, lot
cost basis (69.0000)
(1,070.19), sell, LTCG 1,614.17 and sell, commission (8.02).
The confirm from
Broker shows we sold 69 at 39.02 with a settlement amount of
$2684.36. This amount is shown in Bivio. How do I correct
the $22.44 dif in total cost basis? When I try to edit I
see no place for this correction.
You really should send specific questions about your account like this to support@bivio.com, not to Club Cafe.

But, just so everyone can learn from it...

If the cost basis shown in bivio is different than what the broker shows, AND

you know the broker value is correct, you need to fix the bivio entries to produce correct taxes.

So, you need to compare all the cost basis amounts for each of your lots in bivio that the broker shows sold to find where the disagreement comes in.

It looks like you made opening balance entries of a single lot. If you had multiple lots when you switched to bivio, they should have each been entered individually with their purchase date and adjusted cost basis as of the time of the switchover.

If you were doing dividend reinvesting prior to using bivio, this might be a lot of entries. But it is the way to correct the problem you are seeing.

One of my members is having a hard time accessing her k-1. Is there a way that I (as a club administrator) can download it and attach it to an email?  I can't seem to see how to access individual member k-1s. Thanks.

Cheers, Kimberly

If you click on the "Expert Taxes" link you'll find on the bottom of the Accounting>Taxes page, it will take you to a page where each of the forms is listed separately.

You can download an individual K-1 from there.

Could Bivio have made that link's name any more counterintuitive or place the link where it would be even harder to find?

Hi Mike,

I do think it's better than having to select the "Start button" to shut down your computer.

:)

Our programmers read these messages. I'm sure they would be interested in suggestions for ways it could be improved.

Please, any of you, feel free to share your thoughts on how this might work better for you.
