Holding period Sorry, but we are new to investment clubs, so you will probably hear a bunch from me! Question: If some of us currently have positions with certain companies, and want to transfer funds to a club, when does the holding period begin? Is it when the club begins or can we calculate back to the actual date of purchase? Holding period? Is it when the club begins or can we calculate back to the actual date of purchase? It's not clear what you're asking, but let me take a stab at several possibilities. Your holding period for your investment in the investment club begins with the date of your first investment in the club.
Your holding period for securities which you own both inside and outside the club are determined independently, based on the dates when each of the shares were purchased. If you are thinking of transferring shares you already own to the club, don't do it. None of the investment club software, including bivio, can track the special adjustments you need to make to the cost basis and eventual gain/loss calculations.
