Partial Withdrawals
Dear Laurie,

For the first time, my club wants to do a partial
withdrawal. Can it be done with trasnfer of stock(s) or is
it better to use cash only? Our partnership agreement allows
stock
transfer, but it there any disadvantage to the member
receiving stock?

TIA

Hi Susan,

It can be very tricky to pay a partial withdrawal with stock. The tax rules are different and if not done correctly, the member can end up with a situation where they'll have tax obligations earlier than they might have otherwise. Here is an oldie but goodie writeup that gives a good overview of what needs to be considered.

Feel free to send the details of what you might be considering to support@bivio.com and we can help you review the specifics of your situation.
