Why Are You In An Investment Club?
I'm curious. How would you prioritize the three items below as reasons you belong to an investment club?

1. To socialize regularly with friends who share a common interest in investing.
2. To earn money
3. To learn more about investing

I feel all three play into my decision to belong to  a club, but if I were to make a list it would be:

1)To learn more about investing.

2)To earn money

3)To socialize with friends who share a common interest in investing

I agree that learning is the most important but a good blend of all three makes the most successful club.

That's an interesting comment to think about. I actually consider the $25 a month I contribute to my investment club as the price of a class. I feel I get more than that value in education from it. When we do well and our money grows, to me, that is just the icing on the cake.

Of course, like all cake icing, it does keep you coming back for more!

For me it is #3,2,1 in that order, but not all at once. That is a great question...never realized that before. Thanks. Lillian Goodmn

In our club, we expanded the educational topics to learning about financial planning. This is Number 1. We were all eager to learn about retirement accounts and strategies for moving your money into an IRA.   Number 2 is socializing.

When I joined my first investment club many years ago, I did
so primarily for education, with profits a secondary goal,
so the order was 3,2,1. Now that I have a lot more
knowledge, my goals have changed. My primary goal now is
profit, but my secondary goal is to share my knowledge and
experience with other who are interested in investing, so
the order is now 2,1,3. While I still learn from being in an
investment club, I learn much more by being a
BetterInvesting member, a chapter director, and a member of
the BIVA Board. Volunteering has its rewards.

Obviously #2 & #3 are pretty much running equal.   I want more money but I can't get it if I do not know as much as I can through  learning more about investing.

(Unless I really "marry up" in a hurry and perhaps inherit !!!???!!!)   Sorry,  I am having one of those days............

As for #1,  I have a multitude of friends and keep them in a very special place.   They are priceless.

It's true. Just like you learn the most when you actually make investments, I also find I learn a lot when I put in the time and effort to put a presentation together to teach others.

If any of you are so inclined, we'd love to have you give webinars or share writeups with the bivio community. Just contact me for more details.

For me it was to learn more about investing. Surprisingly, the icing on the cake isn't money [although that doesn't hurt] it's getting to meet with some great people with a common interest every month. I always look forward to it.
