Member moving out of state
Our club is in CA and one member is moving out of state to
New York. Do we have to register for a tax ID from the state
of New York? What are the ramifications of having an out of
state member other than they will not be able to attend
meetings? Will California want to tax income if any made in
Ca to the member who moved since the club i located in Ca?
Your club does not need a NY tax ID. CA will expect to see a K-1 for your NY member, but it won't expect the member to file a CA tax return as long as she doesn't have CA-source income from other sources. However, NY will expect an IT-204 return for the club even though the club is located in CA. You will only have to report K-1 information for your NY member(s).

When it's time to prepare your 2013 tax returns, send a request to support@bivio.com asking for instructions on how to generate two state returns.
